Stay Lifted

I know I'm not the only one who gets completely overwhelmed with life from time to time. Which in turn, can distract us from what keeps us lifted. So I wanted to share three tips that help me keep my spirits up and productive juices flowing.

  1. Be selective about who you share your business with. I know when things get rough, we often look to others for a listening ear. In seeking that listening ear, you have to be very careful about who you go to. Sharing your business with people can possibly give them control over how you choose to deal with things, because most people are not just a listening ear. Most are also giving their opinions and/or advice on how to handle it. Now, sometimes we do need that advice and that's why I said "be selective" and not shut yourself out to others. Not only because of the possibility of them persuading you to handle it one way or another, but also because energy is contagious. If you share an issue you're having with an optimist, you'll most likely pick up on that optimism. If you share with a pessimist...no good.
  2. Don't forget about the people who keep you lifted - whether you know them personally or via social media. Sometimes life can get so crazy that we forget to stay in contact with the ones who keep us grounded. I know I personally won't talk to my best friends for long periods of time just because of all of us being so busy. But the minute I remember and find time to speak or hang with them, I leave them feeling 10x better than I did before. I also find a great amount of inspiration on social media. However these networking sites tend to show you what they want you to see and that's not always what we want or need. Sometimes my feed or explore page can get filled with so much crap that I will end up missing multiple posts that actually inspire me and bring positive energy. So, I try to make sure I visit the pages/websites that I like when I feel my feed isn't giving me the energy I'm looking for.
  3. Keep positive affirmations every and anywhere. Figure out what your favorite motivational quotes are, write them on sticky notes or find pictures of them, and plaster them everywhere - bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, car, phone screen, laptop screen, all'at. Keeping those notes in visible places, is a good pick me up in the midst of chaos.
Life can do a good job at making us feel like our plate is too full. However, when you go out of your way to keep your mind right, you'll see a full plate as a blessing and not a set back. Because nine times out of ten, if you don't take the initiative to keep yourself up, it'll be too easy to be brought down.
"We either make ourselves miserable or strong. The amount of work is the same."
